University Information Tecnhology Services (University ITS)Mission StatementUniversity Information Technology Services (University ITS) is a support organization dedicated to providing state-of-the-art information technology and communications to students, faculty, researchers, and staff for instruction, general research, administration, and public service in support of the University's plan for excellence. Towards that end, University ITS provides a myriad of computing and communication services to the University and some other educational entities. Within these responsibilities are:
ServicesSome core central services provided by University ITS include the operating systems programming, applications programming, and communications services activities associated with a large enterprise server system and central server support. Staff members implement operating systems and language processors, monitor the flow of jobs through the system, schedule administrative production jobs, load peripheral devices such as tape drives and printers, and restart the system in the event of any problems. Systems analysis and programming for administrative offices within the University are also provided by University ITS. Payroll, personnel, accounting, registration, fee billing, admissions, and other areas are included in these applications. Feasibility studies, needs assessments, equipment-purchasing assistance, planning, help desk and consulting services are provided for all offices requesting technical computer assistance. Communication services are provided for the management and operational support of the University's voice, data, and video communication systems. Staff members are involved in the daily administration, planning, and coordination of these systems.Staff members provide services in the areas of education, documentation, user technical assistance, and academic software maintenance. Computing needs are continuously being idenified by the University ITS through direct communication with individuals and open forums. All major support functions associated with a large university computing center are available through University ITS to enhance the environment of higher education in a modern society. Responsibilities of data security, disaster recovery, and system maintenace coordination are typical areas of concern. In addition, a constant effort is made by all University ITS sections to project a positive image of the University and, through our various vendors, increase the visibility of the University.
