EMILIANA PASCA NOETHER CHAIR IN MODERN ITALIAN HISTORY The idea of creating a Chair dedicated to promoting advanced teaching and research on modern Italy originated with Professor Emeritus Emiliana Pasca Noether, who retired in 1986 from the Department of History at the University of Connecticut after a distinguished career of teaching and research on modern Italian history. In 1987 the University of Connecticut launched an appeal campaign that was chaired by the former Lieutenant Governor of the State of Connecticut, the Hon. Mr. Joseph Fauliso. Thanks to the enthusiastic response of our donors, the University of Connecticut was able to formally create the Emiliana Pasca Noether Chair (EPNC) which since 1992 has been held by Professor John A. Davis (formerly Director of the Center for Social History of the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom). The EPNC is the first endowed university Chair dedicated exclusively to promoting the study of modern Italian history in the United States and offers undergraduate courses and graduate programs in Italian history from the eighteenth century to the present. Thanks to a generous donation from the Aldo De Dominicis Foundation and the UNICO National Association, the EPNC is now also able to support research in Italian American history. The EPNC has close links with numerous leading Italian and European universities, and since 1995 has produced the Journal of Modern Italian Studies, the leading English language peer review scholarly journal in the field of modern Italian studies. A new Masters Program in Italian Studies will be introduced starting in 2000. Further
information on the activities of the EPNC, undergraduate courses, doctoral
programs, graduate fellowships, etc. may be found from this page, or
