UConn’s Microsoft Select Agreement

In the year 2000, the Purchasing Department negotiated a contract between UConn, Microsoft, and Dell that provides UConn staff and faculty the ability to purchase Microsoft software at a reduced price. The software available in this contract is all software relating to Server Operating Systems, Desktop Operating Systems, and Applications. The agreement clearly states the software is to be installed on University- owned personal computers; therefore, home use and students are not covered under this contract.

As of October 2001, Microsoft modified the Select Agreement with the following purchase options.

  1. License: Perpetual ownership and the ability to install/run the specified product on one UConn owned computer.
  2. Media: Purchase a copy of the software; delivered on CD.
  3. Upgrade Advantage: The right to upgrade to the most current version of the product, during the term of the agreement. This means that whatever is commercially available at the time of the expiration of the agreement (July 2002), is what you will be licensed for.
  4. Software Assurance: Keeps you current, for the term of the agreement. Can only be purchased for current license offerings. At this time, it includes Office 2000 and Office XP, as well as Windows XP. After July 2002, you will have to purchase Software Assurance at the same time you purchase a new license in order to stay current.

University Information Technology Services (University ITS) manages the Microsoft Select Agreement for the University, taking in orders, collecting payment, filling orders, and tracking the distribution.

Fill out the form completely with your software needs and it returns the price automatically. Upon submitting the form, your order will be filled. When the media is ready for pick-up, you will be notified and payment is expected at this time (Transfer Voucher).
